Vision

FPWA is committed to excellence in sexual health care, affirming that all people are sexual throughout life, have a right to information and choice, and that acceptance of sexuality is integral to health.

FPWA endorses the World Health Organisation’s definition of sexuality, which is: "..... the totality of being a person. It includes all those aspects of the human being that relate specifically to being boy or girl, woman or man. It is an entity subject to life long dynamic change. Sexuality reflects our human character, not solely our genital nature. As a function of the total personality it is concerned with biological, psychological, sociological, spiritual and cultural variables of life which, by their effects on personality development and interpersonal relations, can in turn effect social structure."

Mission

Providing expertise in sexual and reproductive health through services,
research and advocacy.

In this context, FPWA believes that:

  • people have the right to live free from discrimination, regardless of their age, gender, sexual preference, marital status, ethnicity, religion or ability
  • people have the right to express their sexuality, without hurt to or violation of the rights of others
  • to enable people to make informed choices about sexuality and take responsible actions for their own sexual health, they have the right to:
    • access to sexual health care services
    • honest and accurate information and skill development in relation to sexuality
    • an awareness and understanding of their sexual feelings
    • the opportunity to clarify their own values and understand those of others
    • lifelong learning both formally and informally about sexuality as a natural part of living

which, as a consequence, allows individuals to reach their potential as human beings. FPWA’s Mission is a statement of why it exists, and its fundamental purposes.

Goals

  1. Quality Service
  2. Community Focus
  3. Promotion of Sexual Health
  4. Advocacy
  5. Research
  6. Organisational Strength

To achieve its mission, FPWA has identified five principal goals. The focus of the first four is the client, and the last is the organisation.

  • We aim to ensure that services to clients are integrated, are of the highest professional quality, and are provided in a friendly, courteous and caring environment.
  • Our commitment to the community will be expressed in the way in which we provide information, health promotion, training and education, and in the content of our programmes.
  • We will provide leadership as a persistent advocate for the improvement of sexual and reproductive health services at political professional and community levels.
  • We will be active in promoting, participating in and applying quality research in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
  • We aim for organisational strength through the way we value our staff, sound management of our resources, and the development of a strong capital asset base.

In the strategies FPWA adopts to achieve these goals, an essential element will be systematic and continuous quality improvement processes.

  • Board members, staff, volunteers and clients are FPWA’s greatest resource. Their contributions are valued, and FPWA benefits not only from the differences in their contributions but in the differences between people as individuals.
  • FPWA constantly works to develop trust and co-operation between staff as individuals and groups, and to this end places a high priority on good communication within the organisation. This includes the greatest practicable degree of participation in decision making by members, staff and clients.
  • FPWA endeavours to ensure that its strategic plan is clear, and responsive to the current needs of clients and staff.
  • Organisationally, FPWA is characterised by a creative and innovative approach to sexual and reproductive health.
  • FPWA strives to ensure that its services are both cost efficient and environmentally sensitive.
  • FPWA will recognise its achievements and celebrate its successes.
