FPWA Sexual Health Services

FPWA has provided sexual health services, information and training in Western Australia for over 30 years.

We cater for men and women of all ages.

FPWA is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation and is an autonomous member of Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia.

Our Philosophy

FPWA is committed to excellence in sexual health care, affirming that all people are sexual throughout life, have a right to information and choice, and that acceptance of sexuality is integral to health.

Clinical Services

Doctors and nurses are available by appointment for confidential consultations on sexual health issues such as testing and treatment for sexually transmissible infections (STIs), HIV screening, Pap smears, contraception, pregnancy tests, planned and unplanned pregnancy information, sexual difficulties, PMS and period problems, menopause and fertility. These services are also available at Quarry Health Centre.

A wide range of appointment times are available at our Northbridge Clinic. FPWA also has an important role in training doctors and nurses in sexual health. 

Sexual Health Helpline

Qualified staff are available to provide information, advice and referrals to individuals seeking confidential information, and to assist professionals with sexual and reproductive health issues.

Quarry Health Centre for under 25s

A leader in youth-friendly service provision, the Quarry Health Centre in Fremantle offers confidential and affordable services in a safe and supportive environment, including clinical and counselling appointments, a library and education.

Roe St Centre for human relationships

This service offers specialist counselling in relationship and sexual health issues to individuals, families and couples.  Sessions are available on unplanned pregnancy, infertility, sexuality, termination of pregnancy, sexual problems and more.  Male and female counsellors are available and telephone counselling can be arranged for those in rural or outer metropolitan areas. The Roe St Centre also provides professional training and supervision.

Education and Training

FPWA offers a range of courses and can provide tailored education and training programmes in sexuality and reproductive health for schools, community groups, professionals and organisations. Leader training in FPWA’s successful Mooditj and PASH programmes for young people is also available. In addition we provide professional development for General Practitioners, nurses and other health professionals who wish to update their skills and knowledge in the areas of sexuality and sexual and reproductive health.

Library and Bookshop

The FPWA library and bookshop has an extensive range of resources for loan, hire and sale. The library collection focuses on sexual and reproductive health and related issues. There are books, journal articles, videos and teaching kits providing information suitable for individuals, students and professionals. The library and bookshop are open Monday to Friday and services are offered statewide.

People 1st Programme (PIP)

PIP provides a range of human relationships and protective education services for people with a developmental, intellectual or learning disability, as well as for parents, carers and service providers.  One-to-one and school/group programmes are designed to respond to the individual needs of participants.

Magenta and SWOPWA

Magenta provides health services, support, education and information to male, female and transgender workers in the sex industry. Services are confidential and sex-worker friendly, and affordable safe sex supplies are available. Magenta also provides education for health professionals and community groups on issues affecting sex workers.

SWOPWA provides outreach services to street-based sex workers.

Services to Rural WA

FPWA is committed to extending education, training, counselling and information services to rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

Publications

FPWA produces a range of brochures and information sheets on sexual and reproductive health issues such as contraception, men’s and women’s health, and more. These publications can be downloaded or ordered from our website.

Costs

FPWA requests a small annual fee towards administration costs for clinic and library services, while other services have a set fee structure.  For more information, please phone 9227 6177 or contact the relevant service direct.

Membership of FPWA

If you would like to show your support for FPWA you can become a member.  Membership entitles you to full voting rights, or in the case of organisational membership, voting rights for one representative from the joining organisation.
